This blog post was written to highlight a search for those children of James Huggins, jun., 1 who have disappeared from the Irish records.
The several children of interest were born in the parish of Aghaloo and county of Tyrone. Each was baptised in the parish church of St. John (Church of Ireland) in Caledon: 2
- William, 16th July 1829, on of William [s/b James] Huggins, weaver, and Isabella, his first wife, of Dian [the Dyan];
- Samuel, 8th Sept. 1833, daughter of James Huggins, labourer and Mary Ann, his second wife, of Dion [Dyan, parish of Aghaloo]; and,
- Margaret, 7th Dec. 1834, daughter of James Huggans [sic], labourer, and Mary Ann, his wife, of Dion.
Margaret was mentioned as a married woman and beneficiary in an uncle’s will, yet no trace of her has been found to date.
Does it seem likely that William and Samuel died in infancy, as did three of their siblings? That would seem an uncommonly high proportion of infant mortality, yet it might well have been the case. However, it seems equally likely that either or both emigrated.
This blog post is an “all call,” seeking assistance to discover the whereabouts of these three near relatives. The article, James Huggins [jun.] (c.1803–1849) of Glenkeen, provides further details, including a genealogical outline.
If any of these names and related details strikes a reader as a familiar part of their family history, please consider dropping a line via the contact page.
