Emigrants and settlers: McDonnell

  • Mary Burke née McDonnell (1794–1869); born in the county of Mayo; married to John Burke (1796–1839); as a soldier's wife, followed her husband's regiment for eight years in Ireland, and for the remainder of his career, at Chatham. John died on the 2nd May 1839. Mary lived another thirty years, for a time at Chichester in Sussex. She died in her seventy-sixth year, at Winchester—where her daughter's family lived—on the 14th May 1869.
