Emigrants and settlers: Causton

  • Henry Norman Samuel Causton (1892-1980); born at Wotton, Surrey; emigrated to Canada in 1910, and joined the Northwest Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Winnipeg in 1915. Grandad left England because, with reference to the deeply entrenched class system there, he could not see himself living the rest of his days, "tugging the forelock" at his "so-called betters," and never having a chance to improve his lot in life.
