Emigrants and settlers: Burke

  • John Burke (1796–1839); born in or near the town of Claremorris, parish of Kilcolman, county Mayo; attested to the British Army in 1817; regimental tailor; served eight years in Ireland, and the remainder of his career at the 39th Regiment depôt in Chatham; pensioned out on the 8th August 1838; died of fever, just nine months later, on the 2nd May 1839.
