John Ledlie of Carnan, parish of Arboe

  • 1707/8-02-28: John Ledlie of Carnan was one of the executors of the last will and testament of his brother in law, John Clark of Maghera, co. Derry. [1]
  • 1721-07-20: In his will, John Clark, jun., of Maghera, cited his uncle John Ledly of Carnan as not having made an accounting to him of the administration of his father's estate. [2]
  • 1732-12-08: Memorial no. 121-828-83117 – A marriage settlement agreed between Mary Burch als [alias] Jackson of Loghans, parish of Donaghclony, county Down, and John Ledlie of Carnan, parish of Arboe, county Tyrone, re: the intended marriage between the former's son, John, to the latter's daughter, Jane. [3]
    • Discussion – James Stephenson of Killyfaddy was appointed one of four overseers of the settlement.
  • 1739-11-27: Memorial no. 96-402-68582 – a deed of rent charge—reciting a lease agreement (undated, but with a term of fifteen years) between William Morris Jones of Moneyglass, county Antrim, and Philip Morris of Tirkvallen, parish of Arboe, county Tyrone, re: the townlands of Legmurn and Mullaghrane in the parish of Ballyclog—whereby Philip Morris, for the consideration of £90, granted to John Ledlie an annuity of £34 from rents and profits issuing from the lease. The deed included clauses of distrainment in the event of nonpayment, and redemption of the deed upon payment of £90, with interest and costs, to John Ledlie. Thomas Ledlie of Carnan was one of the witnesses to the deed. [4]
  • 1743-04-07: Memorial no. 111-244-76411 – an indented deed whereby, for the consideration of several rents and covenants, Robert Darragh, of Rafeenan in the parish of Tedavnet, county of Monaghan, conveyed the rights and title to Rafeenan townland to John Ledlie of Carnan—subject to an annuity of £26 payable to Mr. Darragh. [5]
    • Discussion – One of the witnesses was John Ledlie of Mullantimore, also of the parish of Tedavnet.
  • 1745-09-14: Memorial no. 162-76-108572 – an indenture of lease granted by the Rev. and Hon. Charles Caulfield and his wife, the Hon. Alice Caulfield, the Rev. Thomas Staples and his wife, Grace, to John Ledlie—of that proportion of Carnan townland then in the possession of John Ledlie and his father, James Ledlie, comprising about sixty-three acres Cunningham measure—for the term of either forty-one years or three lives, whichever lasted longest. [6]
    ☛ The three lives included that of John Ledlie, his son Francis (aged six years), and his nephew, James M'Alire or M'Alise (aged seven years).
  • 1747-10-12: Memorial no. 129-303-87151 – an indenture of mortgage between John Clark of Maghera and James Adair of Belfast whereby, for the sum of £800 in which John Clark stood indebted to Patrick Adair and Robert Jackson of London, merchants, Mr. Clark conveyed his right and title in several leaseholds to James Adair. [7]
    • The several leases recited included the following, which were formerly held by John Ledlie, but had become the property of John Clark:
      • [undated, and term not cited] – an indenture of lease granted by Lord Viscount Mountjoy, Arthur Hill, and Henry Brook, to John Ledlie of Carnan, in one-half of the townland of Aughrimderg in the parish of Clonoe—the parcel of land comprising seventy-nine acres two roods, Irish plantation measure.
