Gilbert Ledlie of Carnan, parish of Arboe

  • 1742-01-22: Memorial no. 108-186-75762 – an indenture between Phillip Morris of Trickvallan and Gilbert Ledlie, both of the parish of Arboe, which starts by reciting two leases—the first between Thomas Morris Jones of Moneyglass, county Antrim, and Phillip Morris, re: Legmurn townland and part of Mullaghrine, both in the parish of Ballyclog for a term of twenty years; and the second wherein Phillip Morris leased the lands, cited above, to Gilbert Ledlie, for a fine of £118 and yearly rent of £31, for a term of nineteen years. The first recited lease was held by Morris Jones from the Archbishop of Armagh. By the current deed, Phillip Morris agreed to renew his lease with Gilbert Ledlie as often as Morris Jones renewed the grand lease with the Archbishop of Armagh, and with the same conditions—failing which, Gilbert Ledlie could execute a lease directly with Morris Jones, himself. [1]
☛ One of the witnesses was Thomas Ledlie of Carnan.
  • 1743-01-02: Memorial no. 114-135-78334 – an indented deed whereby Gilbert Ledlie vested lands in Aughlarge townland, parish of Donaghenry, to the Rev. Thomas Kennedy and his wife, Sarah née Bell, of Lettercleary, in the same parish. [2]
☛ The witnesses included Thomas Kennedy of Dublin, Jackson Clark of Maghera, co. Derry, and James Kennedy of Downpatrick, co. Down.
  • 1743-12-06: Memorial no. 110-465-78730  [3]
  • 1743-12-24: Memorial no. 119-433-83129 – an indented deed whereby, for the consideration of £317 16s 2p, Gilbert Ledlie conveyed to Thomas Ledlie, also of Carnan, a one-half share in the profit rents issuing from, first, the lease that Gilbert held from the Lord Primate and Phillip Morris in Legmurn and Mullaghrine (parish of Ballyclog), Trickvallan (parish of Arboe), and Lisaclare and Killeen (parish of Clonoe)—yielding £14 16s 4p; and second, the lease he held from Phillip Morris in Legmurn—for which a share in the profit rent was not cited. [4]
☛ One of the witnesses was John Stephenson of Killyfaddy, county Armagh.
  • 1745-03-22: Memorial no. 124-47-83731 – an indented deed executed by the Sheriff of the county of Tyrone and John Clark of Maghera whereby, for the consideration of £400, Gilbert Ledlie's leaseholds in Aughrimderg, Legmurn, Lisaclare, Killeen, and Trickvallan, were made over to Mr. Clark. This conveyance was precipitated by a writ of fieri facias issued out of the Court of Exchequer, at the suit of James Kerr of Tullydraw, chirurgeon. [5]
    • Discussion – John Clark was brother in law to Gilbert Ledlie.
    • Jackson Clark, of Maghera, was one of the witnesses.
  • 1745-12-12: Memorial no. 120-556-83866 – an indenture of lease granted by Gilbert Ledlie to William Clinton and Charles Clinton of Killeeen, parish of Clonoe, for the farm and lands then in their possession, comprising forty-eight acres, for a term of seventeen years. [6]
  • 1745-12-30: Memorial no. 120-290-82635 – an indenture of mortgage  whereby, for the consideration of £142 2s 6p, Gilbert Ledlie, then of Belfast, granted to George Ash of Ashbrook, county Londonderry, the lands of Killeen and Lisaclare, parish of Clonoe, with Trickvallen in the parish of Arboe (which Gilbert held from the Lord Archbishop of Armagh)—with a clause of redemption for repayment by the first of August next. [7]
  • 1747-10-12: Memorial no. 129-303-87151 – an indenture of mortgage between John Clark of Maghera and James Adair of Belfast whereby, for the sum of £800 in which John Clark stood indebted to Patrick Adair and Robert Jackson of London, merchants, Mr. Clark conveyed his right and title in several leaseholds to James Adair. [8]
    • The several leases recited included the following, which were formerly held by Gilbert Ledlie, but had become the property of John Clark:
      • 1743-11-16 – an indenture of lease granted by the Archbishop of Armagh to Gilbert Ledlie, of Carnan, in several townlands* in the county of Tyrone, for a term of twenty-one years. * Legmurn, parish of Ballyclog; Trickvallan, parish of Arboe; and, Killeen and a one-third portion of Lisaclare in the parish of Clonoe.
      • 1739-11 – a lease demised by William Stewart, formerly Lord Mountjoy, now Earl of Blessington, to Gilbert Ledlie, of the lands in Aughrimderg, for a term of twenty-one years.
