Thomas Kennedy of Lettercleary (d.1746)

... biographical sketch pending ...

Timeline for the Rev. Thomas Kennedy:

  • 1743-01-02: Memorial no. 114-135-78334 – an indented deed whereby Gilbert Ledlie of Carnan, parish of Arboe, vested lands in Aughlarge townland, parish of Donaghenry, to the Rev. Thomas Kennedy and his wife, Sarah née Bell, of Lettercleary, in the same parish. [1]
☛ The witnesses included Thomas Kennedy of Dublin, Jackson Clark of Maghera, co. Derry, and James Kennedy of Downpatrick, co. Down.
  • 1744-10-01 & -02: Memorial no. 116-155-79909 – deeds of lease and release whereby, for the consideration of £700, the Rev. Thomas Kennedy granted to Captain Joseph Macnoe parcels in Aughlarge, Gortitrea, and Mullantain townlands, parish of Donaghenry. The release contained a provisoe or condition of redemption on payment of "a certain sum with interest." [2]
    • Discussion – A portion of the recited lands were formerly held by John Templeton, probably the father of James Templeton. Another relative, William Templeton, had been in former possession of some parcels, yet retained possession of another.
    • This memorial is unique in that it enumerates the residents of those parts of the townlands which were conveyed to Capt. Macnoe, making it a rather neat, if incomplete, mid-18th century census substitute.
